The Beauty of Paper
The Beauty of Paper
A competition designed to test up-and-coming designers to get a head start in the professional design world.
A competition designed to test up-and-coming designers to get a head start in the professional design world.
This project was entered into the D&AD New Blood competition; the competition pitted young, undergraduate designers against each other to determine which could come up with the most creative commercial design for briefs set by large global brands.
The brief I chose was set by Dropbox Paper; it asked to find a use for paper that would go beyond it’s normal and exisiting uses and find something that would allow paper to have a prolonged existence now with the world slowly switching over to digital products.
I chose to look at how paper can be used to make structures, and began researching into origami and the science behind how you can use certain folds in paper to create something sturdy. I then stumbled across a style of origami that uses lots of small pieces of paper, that could be stacked on top of each other to create a solid and durable structure. To conclude my research I created a chair out of origami.
